Race No. 2 Barcelona
The Tarbes International.

Tarbes is a very different proposition to Barcelona. While the race begins in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountain range the route home actually lies across a relatively flat terrain. With the right wind and the right weather the U.K. can do quite well in this race and TEAM RML can carry some hope of doing reasonably well. Ten pigeons have been sent, two of which have competed in this race before, but for the others this will be their first real test. Up to now they have overcome some quite testing training races but the real test comes here. Can they do it or not? Only this race can answer that question.

You can find an explanation of the race HERE and follow this years race HERE while on this page you can follow TEAM RML's race. Enjoy.

Tarbes update.

A tough race to judge by the returns and though we did not do as well as I had hoped we did not do too badly. Unfortunately “109” has not made it, I feel sure therefore he has had some sort of accident. Judging by the performance of the others I think he would have been home on the night had he been OK.

So first to arrive was “667” no real surprise there as he has been consistent through the training races and went as No. 2 on the sheet, he timed in at 10-16-08 on Day 2 giving him a velocity of 695 mpm. He had flown very hard, sat out for a full 10 minutes before trapping and appeared worn out. Second was “948” who went No. 9 on the sheet and so was a bit of a surprise, he timed at 13.08.43 producing a velocity of 615.7 mpm. Third was “928” who went as No. 4 on the sheet and timed at 15.33.22 producing a velocity of 518 mpm.  Last to arrive, so far, was “141” who went No. 6 on the sheet and arrived first thing Day 3 but was not timed in. I certainly hope to see “937” and our single nomination “966” in the next few days and it will not surprise me if “917” returns in a week or so.

The difficulty of this race, for the UK, is indicated by the fact that only about 1/3 of fanciers who entered pigeons in the NFC have verified a first pigeon. Clearly the longer flyers have suffered worse, although as always some got through, and this may be due, in part at least, to the rain that we had on Day 2.

Surprise, surprise "917" returns first thing Day 4. He looks fit and well and may make a racer yet. Barcelona 2011?
